Think about the basis for organization!
Also, think about the purpose:
- Do you want to inform so that your readers can make a decision?
- Do you want to pursuade your readers so they can change their thinking or behavior?
Think about the audience who could possibly read or will be reading your essay. Your audience are the readers of your essay. This can be real or imagined.
- It could be something your classmates back home in your country and you want to explain something to them about your life here in the states as a student.
- It could be the government leaders of your country and you want them to change their opnions about your topic.
- It could be your classmates here in this class or another class or even all of SCIE.
- It could be your instructor(s) in general or one specific, like me, or another one back in your country.
When you brainstorm, use a specific strategy like free writing, or mind mapping (with little circles), listing, or whatever technique you use to get your ideas going. If brainstorming is difficult for you, we will practice it a little more in class tomorrow so we can share tips about how to make it more effective.
